Don Ryan Joins Oberon Media as Vice President of Publishing; Casual Games Industry Veteran to Drive Publishing Business and Development Team
LOS ANGELES - May 10, 2006 - Oberon Media, leading developer, publisher and distributor of casual games, today announced that casual games industry veteran Don Ryan has joined the company as Vice President of Publishing. A former General Manager of Microsoft Game Studios and director of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, Ryan oversaw the publication of hundreds of downloadable games under the Microsoft Casual Games label.
Ryan, who is known as one of the key visionaries behind Microsoft's cross-platform casual-games strategy, led the team that designed and implemented the downloadable games service for MSN, the MSN Messenger Games service, and Xbox Live Arcade service for Xbox 360. He is widely credited with bringing casual games to the masses and establishing the strong foothold that those products now have in the entertainment software industry.
"We've worked together as partners for years and we know that Don brings a level of expertise and experience that's hard to come by in the games industry," Oberon Media CEO and cofounder Tomer Ben-Kiki said. "We feel privileged that he selected Oberon as a place to continue his impressive career and we foresee great success for our publishing business under Don's leadership."
"I've always been passionate about the vast potential of the casual games space, so my philosophy aligned nicely with that of the Oberon Media leadership team," Ryan said. "The company is probably the best-kept secret in the games industry and I'm looking forward to being a part of their continued success."
At Oberon Media Ryan will be in charge of the company's publishing operations, content acquisition, external publishing and production of content for various platforms and regions. He will also manage the company's Seattle office and oversee Oberon Media's in-house development team - best known for blockbuster casual games such as "Inspector Parker" and "Betrapped" – as well as Oberon’s outside developer publishing relationships, such as the relationship with top developer Large Animal, creator of the successful "Saints & Sinners" franchise.
